Question for QQH.... SHGB classes can you overstamp any breed? or has the sire or dam got to be SHGB registered. Was considering doing classes with our QH and appy, but SHGB website is a bit vague!

Thanks guys
I have spoken to a couple of the showing judges around my area and they have said that they don't get many Appy's and when they do they don't usually get anywhere.

Now I have a bee in my bonnet and I am going to have to prove them all wrong..........watch this space!

You could mebbe keep an eye out for "Foreign breeds" classes - took my QH Jack to our very tiny, very Welsh local show in the midst of Anglesey last year and we had a ball - there were a batch of rather stunning Friesans and a QH filly as well.

But it is tricky isn't it, I'd like to show Jack in something English but what? I suppose we could try WHP...!!!

You can overstamp any breed BUT either Sire or Dam must have been bred here and registered with recognised society - overstamping is the easy bit. It allows you to show at SHGB shows/classes and gives you the opportunity to qualify for Windsor, the Royal and HOYS.

To present for grading, you must have a performance history and present as a 4 or 5 year old - you need to pass a vetting, jump free and be judged on conformation and movement. Lavender was presented last year and was graded so any foals she has to a registered SHGB graded stallion would be recognised by the stud book.

AND about time too missus!!!!!!(Hiya Jude!)
But then soz Jude- but l have to disagree with you on the col class note! When coloured classes are advertised - l allways ring up and check to see if appies are allowed to enter. So far have NOT been refused (we must be a nice bunch us in Yorkshire )
Dez (leopard)has done an awful lot of winning in the coloured in hand & Coloured Ridden classes- winning MANY championships! Nice to get the spots noticed.and l took Fire our leopard stallion out for the 1st time in hand (col in hand) and won that against piebalds & Skewbalds...so you see- if you got it- flaunt it
Just WAIT till l take the Sexy Filly out in a few weeks! CANT wait to hear comments on her! You see we allways get the it,s a spotty- not coloured- a-hem- spotties are MORE than one colour/coat pattern arnt they? Well with Sexy Filly(Riker baby) she,s literally- half black- half white(snowcap blanket!) so to the the ones that like to argue- let em!!!!!!!!
