Correct tack for Hunter under Saddle 2008/04/17 23:14 Karma: 0
I am getting my mare ready for the Hunter classes at end of May and wondered if it would be okay to compete in black tack. I use a WoW saddle on her and given the cost of it, I can't really afford to buy a brown saddle just for the sake of a couple of classes. Will it matter? I was hoping that the AQHA expectations wouldn't be as fussy as english county shows who always prefer brown tack.

We used to have black tack previously and so long as it all matches and you have the correct bit, etc. no problem. my daughter prefers brown, so we now have that as well!!! don't forget that no ornamants allowed, ie no crystal headband unfortunately, shame as they look so pretty in the tack shops! also no rubber reins either. i would suggest that you get slightly longer reins too for HUS so you can get a good drape in the rein. hope this helps.

looking forward to seeing you out there.

Thanks for that. It is a shame we can't have a sparkly browband, but then there is always dressage

black tack is fine as long as it all matches. I agree that it's a shame about the blingy browband, (I do love a bit of diamonte), but then again that's a good look for stressage should you wish to go down the sparkly route.

I too use black tack and have seen a fair few riding with the same and as long as it looks nice and neat I don't think there is a problem.
