Just wondering how much interest there is in the cattle classes?? I know WHA and BRC do them but mostly over in the east and Kent , But why not AQHA UK I think working cow horse classes and cutting/penning could get very popular I think we would need to get some clinics going first so people and horses could learn then maybe do some shows, over to you guys 8)

Hi Roland.
You're right, the WHA and the BRCA both do a full range of cattle classes. You are also right in that we have been a little rooted in the Eastern counties for a year or so but that is changing. The WHA summer show will be in Milton keynes, Buckinghamshire and the end of year show will be in Yorkshire, near Richmond. ( Look out for the dates and schedules) We also hope to be running other shows and clinics at various venues throughout the year.
The cattle classes are the biggest reason I go to the shows, they require much more skill and technique from both horse and rider than you might think and, when done well, they are a joy to watch. They are also great fun!
They are also, to me, the very essence of the skills that the old time, and modern for that matter, cowboys have developed and nurtured over the years. It takes skill, technique and teamwork to pull of the clean , controlled runs that win the classes.
I can supply information as to where people can go to get a taste of working cattle for anyone who might be interested.

I LOVE cattle classes. I was lucky enough to work on a cattle station and attend rodeos. We done heaps of cutting in the yards and competed in campdrafting, it was brilliant ;D.
I don't have a horse to compete on...she is terrified from cattle despite living on cattle farms for the past 8yrs - don't you just love arabs -chesnut mare ones at that!! But I would be more than willing to help out when needed and would love to spectate at clinics.
Being in Scotland seems to be a bit of a problem though ???
