Has anyone read/used a book on western riding that they would recommend?
I have in mind something like Sylvia Loch's books on 'classical' riding. This is to suppliment the excellent instructions given by my instructor which are in french & occasionally lose a bit in translation.

Thanks.

I would recomend any of the western horseman books,  the one that stands out is western training theory and practice by Jack Brainard..

When we first started western riding we got The Complete Guide to Western Horsemanship by J P Forget which was a very good starter book.  Then a few years on Susie Anderson recommended Centred Riding by Sally Swift which is also very good and finally, following a visit to Paola Masi in Italy last year, who  recommended Cross-Train Your Horse by Jane Savoie which has proved very useful (obtain through Amazon).  I would highly recommend Janie Cresswell who advertises on WES as a supplier of western books.  Hope this is helpful to everyone.

Hi

New to the forum and not sure if you are still interested in books on western riding but thought I would post the ones that I have read and found to be informative.

These are in no specific order:

1 Western Training Theory and Practice by Jack Brainard
2 Reining by Al Dunning
3 Western Horsemanship by Richard Sharake
4 Ride Smart by Craig Cameron

Hope these will be of some help

Neil
