Riding on the beach 2008/01/19 19:45 Karma: 1
Hi all,
My friend and I have been wanting to take a day or two beach riding! I've done a fair bit of it and it's great fun.
Trouble is we live in Milton Keynes, about as far from the sea as you can get in every direction? I've had two thoughts, Studland beach in Dorset and Holkham beach on the east coast.
Anyone know anything about either of them or maybe anywhere else? I know its about 2-3 hours driving in the box to either one so I am prepared for that.
Any information on b&b's with stabling or the like would be gratefully recieved. We could even sleep in the lorry if we had stables for the horses.

Many Thanks,

Cowboy

Hi cowboy

We used to ride up Ringstead way, near Hunstanton but that was with the riding club. I'm sure there is a woman who has got a proper setup there. Will put a thread on an other site 'cos I'm sure people on their have been. You can also get onto Pedders way from their and some good riding round Lord Melchetts (sp) estate.
We used to do an inland ride, get on the beach at Hunstanton lighthouse and gallop all the way down to the golf course so you had to look out for the 'bins' Brilliant!

Hi Cowboy

Camber Sands on the Sussex coast is good for riding. There is a large green area for parking. It is near Rye. I know there is a B&B for riders at Jevington in East Sussex, called The Paddocks, and that leads directly onto the south downs way. You can't get on the beach but you can ride along beachy head with some fantastic views of the sea. You can ride at Cooden Beach about 20 minute away, but you have to time your ride for the lowest tides. You could always spend a few days on the south Downs, then hit Camber Sands on the way back home. I think there are also some horse B&B places not too far away from Rye in Kent, if you want to make a week of it! Picture is at Cooden beach

I've been to Holkham a few times - only for the day though. It costs £7 to park your lorry or horse box for the day and the beach is awesome, last time I went was April 2007 and it hadn't changed at all since the time before I went, which was 10 years previously, hardly anyone there, and we spent 5 hours riding on the beach going up one way and then the other. Would recommend it, had a wonderful time. Have a look at http://www.bridlerides.co.uk/ which gives info about B&B and bridleways including beach rides - they give you routes I think (I haven't used them), I think I remember the BHS do a book that lists B&B's that cater for horses and their riders...

This is the place I was thinking of

It's right near the beach and it's really nice up there. You can pop into Hunstanton for candyfloss!

Thanks for the input.

Hey Jo that place looks really good, think I might go to live there?

Will definately take a good look at that when we decide where to go.

Thanks again.

Cowboy.
