Western Riding in Scotland 2007/02/06 09:18 Karma: 0
I was surprised to find a heading here which could easily be confused with my web site which is called "Western Riding in Scotland", because of technichal reasons it is accessed by www. sundancer.btinternet.co.uk and was started in 2001. previous to that in 1992 I had a magazine with the same name. When I heard that a proposed new organisation was to use the name "Western Riding Scotland" (no "in") I asked that they changed it to avoid confusion. They refused. My web site has been on the "bookmark" page of this web site as "Western Riding in Scotland" and also on the "link" page of many other web sites.
The lack of response to my web site may be due to the fact that I am independent and that people are happier with committees, officials, rules etc
Maybe I should start a web site called "WES"? No of course I wouldn't, they probably have it legally protected but on grounds of good manners and consideration for others I would use another name.

Hi
Roddy is correct, the organisation is called Western Riding Scotland. This was the title for "Western" in Scotland which Nigel Boase used years ago when joining the Scottish Equestrian Association as an Associate Member. When it was decided to apply for Full Membership of SEA it was neccessary to formalise the organisation and the name was retained.

Hi Richard!
When I asked you originally you said "Western Riding Scotland" was used by Nigel in magazine articles. The point of my posting was that a conflict of names could have been avoided.

Please read my first post on this thread. Why has a WES official started a site called "westernridinginscotland"?
I know that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery but I don't think that is the intention. Can anybody cast any light on the lack of imagination, or any other reasons why western organisations are intent on using a name (or similar name) which is already a long established web site?
