Travelling horses with RAO 2007/02/23 14:40 Karma: 2
OK, more brain picking.

After a bad virus last year, our horse has RAO symptoms (the fancy new name for COPD!)

We're planning to show her this year - she's fit and well and doesn't cough or wheeze unless she's on a dusty surface.
But as most shows are at least 2.5 hours away, I would appreciate some advice on minimising travel stress for her.
She travels well, and is in splendid isolation in a forward facing stalled lorry.
We travel her with all the windows open on the lorry and with a light rug on, and on inspecting her halfway thru a long journey this week she seemed very comfortable. But I've stopped giving her any hay in the lorry to maximise her air space and on arrival and since getting back she seems starving, hoovering up every last strand of wet hay!
Should I give her some hay on a long journey, and has anyone got any tips for when the weather gets hotter?

Hi Hunterrookie

Have you thought about giving her haylage when travelling ?

If you use a haylage net you probably would only need 1-1.5 slices and you have no dust or airspace to worry about ?

Just a thought
