newbie..advice please! 2007/05/15 17:57 Karma: 2

Hi to all, ive just bought my first western saddle and am waiting for delivery. Im afraid i bought a second hand one as i have never tried western before and the thought of spending 100s of pounds made my husband sweat! Ive gone for what i think is a good solid saddle, its the same length as my english saddle and comes with a saddle pad and two cinches. I literally have no idea even how to put it on so anyone with any advice please feel free to bring it on!! Id really like to avoid slipping round my mares belly!
many thanks in advance,
fiona

Hi Hondagirl,

I live in Milton Keynes and I would be happy to show you how to attach a western saddle to a horse. a word of advice though, not every western saddle fits every horse. In fact, the saddle types seem to be as diverse as in the english riding style so however you decide to go forward, proceed carefully and check the fit as best you can before riding for long in your new saddle. A badly fitting saddle can make a horse very uncomfortable and in some cases even dangerous so tread carefully.

Feel free to contact me through this site if I can be of any help?

By the way, we are putting on a western fun show at the Milton Keynes Eventing Center on the 30th June to 1st July. Why not come along to compete or just see what goes on?

Good luck with western.

Cowboy

Hi and welcome! Hope you are able to take up Cowboys offer to help with fitting - generally a western saddle will extend past the point where an English saddle stops (well, it does with mine anyhow  :-!!) so he will hellp to make sure it's not too small. best of luck
