Alas they're designed for use on building sites etc, not riding..... two problems for use riding that I can see. First is that hard hats used on building sites are designed for a different type of impact to riding hats (hence why bulding site hard hats just have a hard "shell" whereas riding hats have an inner construction that will absorb shock inder impact) - helmets even for different sports that risk falling are remarkably different.
Secondly, a rigid wide brim on a hat like this would increase the risk of a broken neck if the hat were securely fastened; fall on your face and it would increase the potential forces on and angulation of the neck backwards (extension) and vice versa with a fall onto the back of the neck. As far as I can recall this is why rigid peaks on traditional riding hats were abandoned a good decade or more ago, and they were only *little* peaks in comparison. (now they have to be flexible)
It is a bummer isn't it. But with the size & thickness of modern safety hats (needed for the adequate shock absoprtion thickness right down onto the top of the nape of the neck and to just above the ears, both particularly vulnerable parts of the skull in horse riding falls) I do suspect that, even if available, a stetson-type cover would look aesthetically worse than just abandoning the quest for a safe stetson-type hat and switching to hard hat fully.

Hi
Was there a conclusion to the hat search? I should replace mine & having read the Mark Davies Injured Riders Fund results was considering a Troxel. Are they comfortable?

Hi
I bought a Troxel for my recent riding holiday in the states. It was extremely comfortable, very easy to adjust and the ventilation was great in the high temperatures. I thought that possibly with the ventilation slits, I would get a wet head in the rain, but even with a heavy storm it was no problem.
