hi i think it would depend on what sort of youngster you want, do you want pleasure, hunt seat type, reining, all around? also what colour are you after too? i have never bred a horse but have bought according to what i want the horses to do, ie reining and the complete opposite, pleasure. i have a youngster who was bred out of a working cowhorse mare to a top reining stallion and i have to say he looks good and has just started his education. i think its a good idea to talk to the trainers in this country which will give you a good idea of the stallions. good luck rosie

For me it would be Warlee Mr Montanna, he is fantastic looking little horse and is so well behaved and calm in hand and undersaddle,
He is about 15hh i would say very chunky man black very pretty and has done very well here and in australia where he is from,
or becasue i have given up on trying to breed spots and am going for a nice colour Moonlight Venture looks nice but i have never seen him out and he is a little on the large side

hi I agree, if i was looking for a stallion, I would be deciding what it is that I wanted to do with what I produced. But temperament would and has always been top of my list and a very close second would be conformation. I think it is very important to look at the mares comformation and note her weaknesses and look for a stallion that will improve on these weaknesses, looking at a stallions progeny can help you to determine what attributes he tends to throw. I think by far it is equally; if not more important that as much attention is spent on finding a really good mare to start with, but sadly, we can't all afford that luxury. Obviously bloodlines are important, an excellent indication of what your foal will be capable of, but without being unkind I have seen some very expensive beautifully bred horses with terrible conformation...I wouldn't pay big bucks for a horse purely because of who his sire or dam was, I need more boxes ticking than that, but that's just my feeling. Anyone else feel the same? Good luck with your mare, it's very exciting breeding a foal, have to make sure you post some pics for us all to see.

I absolutely agree with Buzz. For me,good conformation and temperament are my first priorities as with those the horse can turn its hoof to anything. I breed for the all- round market as not everyone wants,or can afford,to compete. Bloodlines are only taken into account if there is something adverse there that I don't want. That's not to say that I don't choose the best stallions I can but conformation and temperament will always come before pedigree.
