Feeding Yearlings - what do you feed ? 2007/06/20 20:08 Karma: 0
Whats the best feeding programe for a 14month gelding ?

Only just got him and he's not feed at the moment but worry about him getting all the nutrients he needs.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Hi,

I have a lusitano yearling and she is fed Top Spec Comprehensive with some Readigrass, mint from Simple System and a little garlic. She looks fantastic. I know many people use Top Spec and swear by it. It has made a few a little hyper. I fed my Quarter Horse some cheaper vits and mins - Benevit which are not quite as good.

Good luck

Well- we allways feed ours Baileys Stud Balancer! As soon as they get to tearlings- over onto they go!
Just a cupful- with Alfa A-plenty of good hay or haylage- and a good worming program!
We have a few of our "friends" appies sent to us in a pretty poor state- BUT- with a good worming- and onto Stud Balancer- the difference can be seen in a fortnight!

Baileys stud balancer Atira......I thought you were a Top Spec girl!!

My only comment is don't over feed, take note of condition and feed accordingly.

I fed my TBx filly falcon Fibercare mix and falcon Bio Care mix (about a handful of each twice a day) and it made such a difference! she looked fab on it!! combined with hay at night and as much turn out as she could get!

she is quite 'hot' and a very good doer and it suited her perfectly.

as a two year old she is now out 24/7 and gets a the mix(s) above in the winter (nothing in the summer) and she looks stunning (and in perfect condition according to the vet!)

falcon feed is also not as expensive as some other feed manufacturers which always helps!!
