Although It may well have no bearing at all, the problem I had was with a Jack Russel terrier who had an allergic reaction to grass seed. In the summer his tummy was covered in red lesions which we treated with steroids about once a fortnight.

No problem in winter but it plaqued him for years. Cost a fortune too but thats pets for you?

It does sounds like if you have suspected the lenght of the grass before, and Cowboy confirms animals can suffer from grass seed allergey, it is not out of the question.

I have used www.natraderm.co.uk on myself and my horses many times. I really rate it as it is soothing and natural and will not eventually thin the skin like cortisone based dermatitis creams can. It is a human product, but I have used it on my boys when their manes get a bit itchy and they love it!

Once the wounds have healed and you are ready to turn him out again, might be worth trying a pair of hind brushing boots on him - if he doesnt get the prolem again from wearing the boots, at least you have narrowed it down then to an external cause and can help to prevent his legs coming into contact with anything in the field?
