Well I do though, I favour a loose ring snaffle, and if you are thinking of showing check the rules but you can only enter certain classes.

Yes, but check the rules on mouthpieces - some of the dressage type bits with 'peanuts' in the middle may not apply - WES and AQHA rules are downloadable from the relevant websites.
As Peachie says, a loose ring is good for western as you want to be able to 'feel' the horse's mouth on a light contact, not get hold of it!
Myler snaffles are good too as the independent side action enables you to influence one side of the horse only.
That said, our madam who is ridden one handed by my OH in a correction curb bit goes really well in a d-ring copper roller for novicey two-handed me!
