Shaping Western Hats 2007/07/12 15:23 Karma: 0
Hi everyone,
does anyone know how to shape a western hat? my sister brought me back an Akubra hat from Oz when she visited recently - nice hat, but the brim is straight - does anyone know how I can shape it? looks a bit stange as it is!

We've just had ours shaped in Sheplers (we were on holiday in Colorado) and the hat maker told us we could shape it using the steam from a kettle and a fan/hairdryer to set any changes.

apparently there is going to be someone from the US at The Hand Eq. Centre AQHA show at end of Sept that will be shaping hats to fit. I think Theresa from Rhinestone is organising it - hopefully she will be able to give you some details!

Thanks for those tips! don't think I,ll risk the DIY approach - I'll go along to The Hand and seek professional help!

Hi,

We have Trent Johnson owner of Greeley Hatworks http://www.greeleyhatworks.com/index.html coming over to the breed show, he will be holding short clinics at 11am and 3pm on the Friday and Saturday but he'll be around all weekend and happy to answer any questions you have about hats. We will also have a hat steamer so will be able to help with any shape issues !

It'd be great for him to meet as many people as possible while he's here so please don't be shy and come and have a chat.
