Hi , I was wondering if any of you have had any dealings with the above stallion, I purchased a qh x tb gelding from west end farm quarter horses, last year. my youngster is soon to go away to be started with sue woods in kent and I was wondering what sort of size he will end up making ( he's 15'1hh at the moment) any help appreciated.

HI Ya

How old is your youngster? Do you know the size of the sire and dam? - You can sometimes estimate what height a youngster will grow from knowing what height the sire and dam are - but you can sometimes get a throwback from a distant relative which means the youngster may grow much bigger than the sire and dam - or in some cases be smaller than the sire and dam - I would have thought if he is aged 3 to 4 you not going to get much more growth out of him - he is more likely to fill out - if he hasn't already. From past experience it really does depend on the size of the sire and dam (and this is my own personal opinion) - although like I said above you can sometimes get a throwback. Hope this helps. :

My youngster's Sire is 14.3 and his dam 15.1 and I didnt expect him to reach much bigger than that, but he is 15.2 now and he is only just 2 - must be one of those throw-backs you mentioned!!
On the other hand I have a friend who breeds arabs and she has a 14.2 mare, her foals have only made 14.1 regardless of the size of the sire so I think it really is pot luck...

Well I did say it was my own personal opinion and seeing as I am a breeder - my comments still stand as above - of course how you feed your youngster has a lot to do with it as well. Obviously, don't overfeed as this does more harm than good!!

I have a 14.3HH Stallion and most of the youngstock I produce out of him tend to be around 15HH to 16HH. None of my broodmares are over 15.2HH.

Thanks for all your help, he will be 2 on the 26th of july he is currently standing at 15.1 at he withers and 15.2 on the rump. dad was 14.2/14.3 and mum was a 16.1 failed race horse. All in all im very pleased with him. the year i've had him has flown past and he has turned into quite a handsome chap who is starting to fill out, a far cry from the woolly urchin who was untouched and had to be" roped" to get him in to the stable whe I went to view him.
