Aren't alot of polo ponies are QH crosses. My friend has a QH x NF - so beautiful. Another lovely cross is a QH crossed with either a lusitano or andalucian these create an Azteca.

I think you should go for it campbh, but need to research your stallion carefully - QHs for one thing don't always have the best feet, and neither do TBs! So soundness through a performance career has to be a big factor in your choice.
I originally wanted a QHxTB cross and would still like one to do dressage on , jump and maybe hunt.
I'm pals with team chaser Debbie Topping who has also ridden western and she would have loved a QHXTB for her son to team chase but sadly there was nothing suitable on the market at the time.
- Ideally you would get a slightly bigger, scopier youngster, but still with the fantastically trainable temperament.
However, unless you were breeding for yourself you might have to consider that you'd struggle to sell a QH cross as an unbroken youngster for a realistic price.
There is certainly one part bred QH competing to a high level in western - Dee Allen's Calder's Pride (lots of points in trail and pleasure) but I think the other bit of his pedigree is unregistered paint.
Maybe a chat with David Brindley at WES would come up with some more examples.

I breed paints and although its going off the beaten track slightly in relation to breeding part bred QH's. I do breed my paint stallion to my (Unreg) connermara mare and up until this year my purebred TB - I have a cracking TB X Paint Colt out of this TB mare who I bred purely for sport horse events he has the laid back temperment of his dad with the athletic ability of his mum the TB. Sadly my TB mare passed away last week due to complications of going into foal too early but still all her babies have gone on to be cracking all round sport horses. In relation to the (unreg) connermara she again has cracking babies out of my stallion whose foals go into all sorts of disciplines whether its english or western. I think as long as you research your chosen stallion well part breds are just as good as the full breds. Hope this helps slightly?!?

Hi, I have a TB X QH, who is rising 3, he seems to have the temperament of a QH, but is thrown body wise to the TB, currently he stands at 15.2.

Conformation wise his only fault he is slight pigeon toed on his near fore.

I purchased his from a QH breeder in sussex and he was totally unhandled, in fact they roped him to get him in.

Everything that has been thrown at him, he has taken in his stride.

Considering I only paid £800 for him and that I'm not into reining I'm delighted with him and would certainly consider this cross or similar again.

I have a beautiful Sec 3 mare which is by a QH stallion and a mare of native breeding (?dartmoor x). She is definitely only half a QH when it comes to temperament, as although she has her chilled out times, she is very strong-willed and far too clever for her own good. She is 14.2 with huge strong feet and has many QH characteristics (large butt being one of them) but with more of a dartmoor type face.
I ideally want to ride western but haven't done alot with her due to her developing an asthma type problem to fungal spores/pollen last year. I think she'll make an excellent allrounder eventually but she is hardwork - still love her to bits though.

We are waiting to see what my Section III partbred QH mule is going to turn out best at - in my last two visits (she is away being started) over the past month I have seen some moments that suggest a reiner, other days a pleasure horse, and when she really struts her stuff, she could really move for dressage. Oh, and - when we put the crupper on for the first time - she did a great bucking bronco act.

So we really don't know yet - I am hoping for an all-rounder like my purebred who will happily perform at a variety of western and English classes - but we shall see. It would be nice if there were more part-bred classes at AQHA-UK shows.

She is very sweet tempered and very affectionate indeed; loves her trainer; hates vets; and does have a nice QH "off" button. On the other hand she is much more competitive in company and likes to be at the front than my pure-bred.

I've never had a youngster before and it is quite exciting as she learns and develops and we wait to see in which direction her talents lie
