General Riding Clothing Advice Needed 2008/02/29 08:55 Karma: 1
Hi Guys

I ‘converted’ to western at the end of last year and have been taking lessons.
Up till now I have been riding in my jodhpurs and joddy boots with a normal English velvet showjumping hat.

Now I have bought an Appaloosa who I plan to just do western with I think it is time that I bought myself ‘the gear’.

I don’t want to spend a fortune as it won’t be for showing (will get that a bit later) so just need a hat, boots and jeans really. I have heard that I need single seam jeans and that Wrangler are probably about the best. I also have quite big calves so need shorter boots. I know Durango do a really nice pair but have only seen them on Sheplers who have since stopped stocking them.

What hat?
What Jeans?
What Boots?

Cheers
Kelley

Ps. I am a girlie

Hat= Resistol or other good brand for showing and a normal safety hat for schooling and clinics,
Jeans = american wranglers are good just make sure they are long enough ie they cover your boots when your sat on your horse, should have some wrinkes when your standing
Boots just make sure they have a heel and not too pointy toed. hope this helps... have fun...

Jeans (wranglers), Ariat Ropers (good quality and cheaper than most), Straw hats are cheaper than felt. Oh and a can of whoop ass.

hi, i would also suggest www.rods.com who ship to the uk and are very efficient. if you don't want to ship they go to theresa at www.rhinestonecowboy.co.uk as they have new jeans in and all sorts of boots. also try jeannine march at www.marchhorseandtack.co.uk very good too.
good luck
rosie
