What happened to Spring 2008/04/19 22:59 Karma: -4
Has anybody in the UK felt warm yet, cast their thermals and revelled in the first warmth of spring?
Show season is almost upon us and my horses are still hairy where their rugs dont cover!
They look like native ponies!

Any tips on getting their coats out quickly?

Can't help with short cuts I'm afraid - just pure elbow grease and a good rubber curry comb....

My dogs are the same - they look like wolves at the moment and I pluck them daily but there is still all this dead hair coming out in huge clumps.

Don't you think this wierd weather is confusing everyone though?

although I wouldnt normally advocate it, just before a show trimming up the guard hairs, those long thick ones that grow under the jaw and chin and make them look like natives, can really instantly improve the look of a still-hairy horse. Other than that I agree - rubber curry and elbow grease!!

Ok, giving away my dodgy musical past here but........this is a classic Flanders and Swan explanation of english weather.

A Song of the Weather

January brings the snow,
Makes your feet and fingers glow.

February's ice and sleet
Freeze the toes tight off your feet.

Welcome March with wintry wind
Would thou wert not so unkind!

April brings the sweet spring showers,
On and on for hours and hours.

Farmers fear unkindly May
Frost by night and hail by day.

June just rains and never stops
Thirty days and spoils the crops.

In July the sun is hot.
Is it shining? No, it's not.

August, cold and dank and wet,
Brings more rain than any yet.

Bleak September's mist and mud
Is enough to chill the blood.

Then October adds a gale,
Wind and slush and rain and hail.

Dark November brings the fog
Should not do it to a dog.

Freezing wet December, then
Bloody January again!

January brings the snow ...

"I hope that's been helpful to those of you planning your holidays. Now they're very useful, travel tips. Despite all you may have heard to the contrary, the rain in Spain stays almost invariably in the hills. Oh dear, what a weather this is. Still, it was very nice yesterday, wasn't it? Spring, I enjoyed that. Missed it last year, I was in the bathroom. " Recorded between 1956 and 1959!!

Things don't change...

There was one day a couple of weeks ago that was quite nice & I put their lighter rugs on, but it only lasted a day. That one day was probably the only day of spring!

I had a lesson today & my new saddle got wet!!!!!
