O/h and I had a lesson in all the heat yesterday. JD rolled with me on board but that's another story. The girls got very sweaty as did their saddle pads. O/h's was fine as you can take out the pad and wash the cover. Being of the 'older generation' and having done domestic science at school, I got a bucker of warm water with some shampoo, a soft brush and just using the foam gentle scrubbed the underside of JD's. I then did the same thing with fresh water. It's not bad but has anyone a better way to get these pads clean and fresh. I was so used to putting the English ones straight in the washing machine with the boots!

What type of pad do you have? Some you can remove the inner and chuck them in the washing machine.

O/h has one where you can wash the cover (which I have) but although mine looks the same (fluffy one side, blanket design the other with pad inside) it is stitched all round. I would undo it and put some velcro on but it is a front raised pad so is stitched across the pad as well.

I may be old but luckily I'm still a bit quick and rolled out of the way when I hit the deck. People were there with me but she was so quick!

i've got one of those pro choice air ride pads. they say not to machine wash so when mine was greasy i thought - what do i do?!

i ended up washing it in the bath (removed most the hair first). mum has some handwash powder so i put a bit of that in and gave it a good rub. i then rinsed it a few times in clean bath water and then sprayed the shower at it. i then hung it to dry. it came up pretty good. it did take a whole day to dry though so i couldnt ride the next day. i'll just have to make sure i wash it before he has a day off. might be quicker in this warm weather though.

I washed one of my blanket/fleece ones in the bath too, left it to drip dry, sad thing is it took better part of a week before I could put it back on the horse?
