I notice there has been a lot of comment in western media recently regarding surfaces for arenas. Whilst it seems that waxed surfaces are not ideal for western riding I can't seem to find any reference to what is a good surface. The livery yard where I keep my horse are just about to resurface their arena and most of the other liveries are pushing for a wax surface so it would be useful if I could put forward an alternative suggestion.

I also confused about what is an appropriate reining surface!

I beleive it has to be sand with a deep litter, but I am not 100% sure..

I think most reiners would like a sand/ clay mix that seems to be the bench mark in the us anyway.... the wax surfaces are crap for western= too sticky dosnt suit our horses way of going, they are popular with lazy arena owners as they dont need draging very often...
