An interesting thing happened this week, I had worked two horses before Pee Wee and when I was leading the second one back he stood on the back of my spur and dislodged it. I picked the spur up and placed it to one side.
Anyway I carried on tacked up Pee Wee mounted him and then realised that I only had one spur on. The dilema, do I put the other spur on. I decided to take the remaining one off. Pee Wee when he arrived from South Dakota would not even mve an inch unless you were wearing spurs.
The whole session went really well and I now realise how far this horse has come in a very short time.
His circle work is now very solid. Flying changes generally he is coming on with these. If I were to show him now, there is still a high risk of hitting a five point penalty, so I still have a long way to go until I am 100% confident. The changes now tend to include a half buck, a lot different from the pegasus style flying kick out changes we used to experience. I do like this horses attitude to work. He is very willing and always shows some form of improvement.
Fencing, I decided to inject a little more rate into his fencing, not too much, just enough for him to work on his shape in the stop. He is quite good at this, he always runs dead straight and stops really nice. I decided to do a little trail work with him just to keep his mind active, really pleased with this, he was very careful over the poles and cleaned all the obstacles.
Next week I am going to give him a change of scene and work on his spins, just to keep him sharp. I will also do a little more trail.
