Circles, lots of them. I have really focused on getting his frame correct and building his self carriage. I would say that we need to focus on this for quite a few sessions as he is reluctant to stay in frame. On working the circles I have taking it through each gait until I have acheived the desired frame for several circles until stepping up to the next gait. It is essential that in the transitions that he holds his frame and overreact to my legs. Once I was happy with his circles at lope I decided to pop in a lead change, there was a mild reaction but no kicking out. I moved onto backing work. We concentrated on backing around circles and then squares asking for his shoulders to move over at the corners. I did not get any problems with his back ups and will just keep these as a maintainance , probably as part of his warm up.
Starting next sessions with more circles then I will introduce some fencing work. I will not be running him at speed into the fence as we dont have a terribly good surface, however to compensate this I will be asking for a really good back up.
