As discussed at the recent meeting in Scotland
hosted by the Scottish Equestrian Association (SEA) [April 07] and discussion at
recent meetings of the British Equestrian Federation's Coaching Development
Action Team (CDAT), Suzanne Genery, BEF's Consultant Head of Sports Development has provided these notes for the purposes of
continued clarification.
The Scottish Qualifications
Authority [SQA] is sponsored by the Scottish
Executive Education Department. It is the national body in Scotland
responsible for the development, accreditation, assessment and certification of
qualifications other than degrees. Additionally,
SQA are the awarding body for those and UKCC awards in
Scotland.
UKCC candidate coaches will register via an SQA approved centre of which
there are four.
Via agreement with sportscotland
Scottish sports/national governing bodies
will register their candidates with the four approved centres [one of which is
Scottish Swimming].
Registrations to an approved centre will be via one
central point for each sport.
The Scottish Equestrian Association has been designated by sportscotland as
the central point for equestrian registrations. Scottish equestrian
coaches will register with SEA [via their member body] who will in turn register
candidates with Scottish Swimming and through Scottish Swimming to
SQA.
Candidate coaches
who have no current affiliation with any member body or organisation should
contact SEA direct and would register with SEA directly.
SEA is facilitating the
registration of all equestrian coaches via this route not dependent upon
membership of SEA or any member organisation of SEA. However, it is strongly
hoped that in the long term all equestrian organisations will be represented
within SEA.
sportscotland would suggest that to retain all data for
UKCC purposes, all equestrian coaches that register with SEA for UKCC should
become members of SEA (i.e. minimal charge (£1.00) added to charge for them to
become an individual member).
sportscotland has secured funding to assist candidate
coaches access the UKCC award. This funding is available to "coaches resident in Scotland and coaching a Scottish club".
SEA has now been allocated this funding to support the candidate
coaches.
Please contact your member organisation, SEA or the BEF for
more information.
