Situated in the beautiful Vale of Glamorgan, our primary enterprise is farming cattle and sheep on 250 acres of land. Having bred a number of part bred QHs, we decided that maybe, just maybe, we should buy a purebred filly to keep as a brood mare. Shortly afterwards Chipadee Reignlady (Queenie) arrived. In 2006 Queenie produced her first foal, a palomino filly by Tinsel King. Soon after that we acquired Seren Magie Jo and then took the plunge and imported two grey mares, Classical Blue Babe and Gunners Blue Dandy, from Oklahoma. In summer 2004 we fell in love and subsequently bought our own stallion, Tinsel King. He has proved to be an outstanding investment producing gorgeous babies on a variety of different mares. In 2005 we imported two more mares from the US, Ms San Leo Rojo and Fancy Napoleonette who are both producing stunning babies. In late 2007 we imported two paint mares from Canada - a long held ambition - so are looking forward to having some coloured babies running around this spring. (Fingers crossed!)
Our aim is to produce quality horses, some purebred and some partbred quarter and paint horses, with wonderful temperaments and the ability to be good all-rounders and fantastic leisure horses with excellent conformation and soundness.
For those of you who enjoy riding under English saddle, I regularly ride Willow in this way and see no reason why Quarter Horses and Paint Horses can't compete and participate successfully in traditional events such as jumping, hunting, showing etc. They take most things in their stride and usually adjust easily and quickly to new situations. Quarter horses are also emminently suited to Pony Racing and, indeed, pure and partbred quarter horses are both in demand for this activity. As they are devastatingly fast, having the ability to quickly speed up and calm down, quarter horses and paint horses are also a natural choice for mounted and gymkhana games. Both breeds are also a popular choice for TREC competitors as they have such sensible and trainable dispositions.
Our palomino foals are usually of a good solid colour and would possibly be eligible for registration with the British Palomino Society. This gives them another opportunity for competition.
Please bear with us while we develop this website. We are only beginners and doing our best!
We usually have quality foals and youngstock for sale. Please enquire for further details and up to date photos and prices. We welcome and are happy to consider offers for any of our sale stock so pick up the phone or email Dorothy Harris and you may find yourself with a real bargain. If you would like to visit (by prior arrangement please) we are easily accessible - only 10 minutes from junction 34 on the M4 and about 40 minutes from the Severn Bridge. There are two other breeders in the immediate vicinity so it is well worth making the visit to see the variety of horses we have on offer.
We are also proud to offer Tinsel King's stud services for 2008 to a small number of selected mares.
Give us a try - Wales is a wonderful place for QHs and Paint Horses - you will not be disappointed.

The various pages here should give you some idea of the type of horse we produce. On Tinsel King's page you can see some more details, pictures, and his pedigree. The Mares page shows all our mares, again with photos and pedigrees, etc. Our For Sale page is self explanatory. Our Foals 2007 shows last year's arrivals with details and prices. Stud News deals with latest news from Acorn Quarter Horses but also has news of various youngsters we have bred and sold.
Acorn Quarter Horses are proud to use the services of Maes Glas Veterinary Clinic and Owen David (Farrier). We are indebted to their help, advice and professionalism. Thank you also to our great friend Margot Squire who has taken some of the better photos on this website.
