Stud News

Willow (Do Bee a Margarita)
On this page we will bring you the current stud news as well as updates on Acorn Quarter Horses we have sold. We are in touch with many of our buyers but if you have, or know of a horse not shown here, please send us some info so we can include it. We always love to have news of our babies!
After the awful wet January, February turned out to be blessedly dry and, at times, quite spring like. It is always a somewhat treacherous time of year with a hint of spring yet with the bite of winter only just round the corner. We have now started lambing but so far the weather has been quite cold with more rain to come. Bring on the lovely spring weather!!
The horses have mostly done well. The 2007 foals are now all weaned bar Jack and Sixpence who will run on for a bit as their dams (Gypsy and Dazzle) are not in foal for 2008 and are in excellent condition. Our first foals of 2008 are due in early April and we are already planning our breeding programme for this year. We are looking forward to greeting our new babies and are especially excited about our paint horse foals.
Willow and I have continued to get out and about and have been on a couple of the pleasure rides held at the Cotswolds Farm Park - very scenic and great fun with the opportunity for some jumping. Willow is a pleasure to take out on such excursions as she is very well behaved and a good traveller to boot. We have also had one day's hunting which Willow finds a little more exciting but is still well mannered. In February we took part in a Kelly Marks Winter Trec competition where we managed a third place at our first attempt. Hopefully we will have a chance to try more in this discipline this year.
Our own Acorn Fine n Dandy, aka Suki, (pictured below) a 2006 buckskin filly by Tinsel King out of Gunners Blue Dandy (Pinkie)started her successful showing career in 2007 in AQHA halter classes shown by Mandy McIntyre on our behalf. Indeed she did so well, gaining many wins and places that she finished as Reserve Champion Yearling Mare in the UK.AQHA British High Point Championships. We are delighted by her success and are looking forward to following her career in 2008 and, hopefully attending a few more shows. We recently visited Suki and were delighted to see how much she has matured and progressed. She is a great example of the type of horse we are aiming to produce - quality mixed with a level head!

So, let's move on to news of horses we have bred and/or sold.......
Rodney

Rodney has to be top of the list. He is out of Dazzle and by a paint horse, D bar S Blue Bayou. When he was a weanling he had a strangulated hernia and I subsequently nursed him post surgery and became very attached to him. He is with us for life. He has been used as mainly a happy hacker and has been back in work through the summer but has now been turned away for the winter.
Dazzling Dream

This is Dazzling Dream, another Dazzle son, this time by Desired Vision. He is a Section III 2002 gelding and belongs to Katherine Lougher in Worcestershire. Dream has been on pleasure rides and also competed in some dressage competitions where he finished 4th in the first and won the second. He has also been placed in his first show jumping competition. Earlier in the year he and Katherine went on a weekend break and has been to stay with us for a couple of short visits with a return visit from us in early October. He is a truly versatile chap and we are very proud of him. Well done, Dream!!
The next four horses have all been bought by the Marshall family of Somerset ......
Dazzling Sunbeam aka Thaddeus

2000 section III gelding by Red Hot Profit. This is another Dazzle offspring (there are quite a few around!!) He has had western training and has been competed this year, qualifying for the WES Championships in the Trail class so well done to him.
Acorn Blizzard

So called because he arrived 3 weeks before his due date in the field in the middle of a snow storm. Blizzard is a section I gelding ex Gunners Blue Dandy (Pinkie) by Playboys Peppier Ego. He has been started and is proving to be a steady and reliable chap with a sweet temperament. He is currently undergoing further training and I recently had the were delighted to see him compete at Hartpury in July, where he managed to place in several classes. Blizzard qualified for the WES Championships in the Trail and Pleasure classes - an excellent achievement in his first year of competition.
Acorn Spark

Spark is Classical Blue Babe's (Blue) 2005 offspring by Shiny Little Spark. He has been started this year and Vicky will, hopefully, compete him in due course so watch this space .....
Acorn Ed

Ed is Fancy Napoleonette's 2005 foal by Royal Blue Gold. He was started this year and is now riding out calmly and sensibly for Nick Marshall. Well done, both of you!
Dazzling Duchess

Jess is a 2003 section III mare by Desired Vision ex Bobby Dazzler. She is now owned by Mia in East Anglia. She has been started under western saddle. Jess competed in her first show on April 15 where she won the showmanship class. In August she competed in her first WES pleasure class which she won. Once we have some photos we will post them.
Acorn Joanna

Acorn Joanna is a Section I mare by Pesky Silver Foam ex Seren Magie Joe. She is owned by Janelle and John Norton in Essex. She was started under saddle in 2006 and going well. She is a lovely filly - actually the first purebred foal we bred at Acorn Quarter Horses.
Dazzling Red Moon

Dazzling Red Moon is a 2004 Section III gelding by Desired Vision ex Bobby Dazzler. He belongs to Janis Williams from Merseyside. Sadly, he sustained an injury which means that he may not be able to be ridden but he has, nevertheless, been introduced to Western tack. Let's hope he recovers so that he can at least be lightly ridden.
Tehya Moonlight Gold

Originally named Acorn Tehya, Tehya is the first filly we sold in Wales. She belongs to Maria Church of Glynneath. She is a 2005 palomino purebred filly by Tinsel King and out of Seren Magie Joe a mating repeated this year for 2008. She has also been registered with the Palomino Society. Maria is hoping to start Tehya next year.
Dazzling Princess

We sold Princess to Laura in Cardiff earlier in 2007. She is a two year old filly by TK out of Dazzling Polka. Laura is currently doing groundwork and education with her in preparation for starting her under saddle. We get regular updates and look forward to more.
