A foundation bred stallion wrapped in the most beautiful colour, dun factor galore with Leg Barring, Dorsal Stripe, Frosted tail, tipped and lined ears, along with one of the most pretty heads you will ever find and a classic example of a foundation quarter horse.
His temperament is very easy going, and he is a pleasure to have around. I am in the process of breaking him to ride and he hasn't batted an eyelid at my inept plonking of the saddle on his back or jumping up and down around him.
His breeding combines some of the best foundation bloodlines and performance lines available, his grandsire being from the renowned
Jaz Ranch
, and by Pocos Gray Comet along with the well known Slick Rock mare line.
His dam is by Three Times Daily an aqha point earner and son of Docs Prescription, World champion producer, and sire of NCHA earners in excess of $2,000,000, she is also out of a granddaughter of Triple Chick Million $$ racing sire aswell as a huge AQHA producer including many AQHA champions, ROM earners as well as NCHA money earners.
At this point of time, Rooster has produced 18 dun factor foals out of 18 birthings. He is proving to be a 100% dun colour producer and be homozygous for the dun factor, although not homozygous for the black gene.
Coming from foundation working stock, Rooster finds it quite natural, and I find it quite fascinating to watch him 'work' new comers into the herd. He doesn't touch them in any way shape or form, but adopts the stance of a working border collie and 'holds' and 'turns' them with just a look of his eye and slight movement of his body, with his head almost on the floor and just the power of his eye. With this coupled with the temperament of a lapdog Cavalier King Charles Spaniel - he would curl up in the straw with you if you allowed him - I consider myself to be one fortunate person to own such a star of a horse.
All of his offspring have perfect feet, which is a bonus, and the farrier could not be more pleased with that outcome!
Along with his colour, he is throwing superb heads and good temperaments, along with very healthy foals. However, Rooster is only six this year and is still maturing himself and has changed a lot over the last 12 months with a bit to go. I think this will reflect in his offspring and they will mature steadily, but slowly and take all of the 7 ish years they say that American Quarterhorses take to fully mature.
Rooster runs with his mares and foals and knows his place in the scheme of things (he will cover in hand also), the women rule ok!!
Last Summer, a group of us saw one of the foals approach him and try to drink from him. He just kept grazing (probably with a secret smirk). He is just the perfect dad and shares his food with all of the babies who wish to come and rob him of it!
Rooster has been tested for HERDA (Hereditary equine regional dermal asthenia) and has tested N/N (negative).
